A water heater is a large tank that heats the water in a home or business through electricity or natural gas. Conventional water heaters heat the water to a specified temperature and then store it at that temperature until it’s needed. While this type of water heater is great at providing you with hot water, they’re not very efficient. That’s why we recommend and install the following systems:
Tankless Hot Water Heaters
Also called on-demand water heaters, these systems generate hot water only when it’s needed. By not storing hot water in a tank, homeowners can save serious money and energy. When the hot water tap is turned on, cold water is heated through electricity or a gas burner — giving you a fast, constant supply of hot water and making them a perfect choice for large families.
Indirect-Fire Energy Efficient Water Heaters
Although these systems do need a storage tank, they’re still much more efficient than traditional hot water heaters. Heat transfer coils run between a furnace or boiler and the tank to heat water. This system, especially when paired with an efficient heat source, can be one of the most affordable ways of providing hot water.
Repair vs. Replacement
Like with all HVAC, a repair might not be worth it in cases of old equipment. Our tech will help you evaluate the pros and cons of a repair versus a replacement.
Repair vs. Replacement
Running out of hot water
This is a big one. If you’re not generating enough hot water, then you might need a new system – consider an energy-efficient tankless water heater!
Strange noises
A water heater can potentially make several different noises. Sometimes this might mean it needs a tune-up but it can indicate the need for a more significant repair or even a replacement.
Leaking Damaged tank
Leaks or rust aren’t always a worst-case scenario but it might mean that you need a repair. If the tank itself is significantly damaged, it’s often more cost-effective to replace it.
Old age
Hot water heaters can last anywhere from 10-20 years, depending on the type. We always recommend being proactive about replacing a water heater to prevent water damage.
